4. Anaal Nathrakh – Hell is Empty… And All the Devils are Here (2007)
BLAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They have arrived
Anaal Nathrakh proved that they were unrelenting heavy on The Codex Necro, that they could be experimental on Domine non es Dignus, and they proved that they could be melodic on Eschaton. What followed was the natural evolution of all of those styles combined into one without compromising their edge in any respect. Hell is Empty is a journey into an abyss of violence filled with references to everything from Mozart to Warhammer 40K. Read more »

14.Agoraphobic Nosebleed – Altered States of America (2003)
This is not listened to, it’s felt.

Trippy
This isn’t music, it’s an experience. I was physically exhausted after my first listen and it takes a lot for an album to do that to me by sheer brutality given that I live on a musical diet of 90% metal. Yet it still managed to be one of the most intense experiences of my life. And I was perfectly awake and sober at the time. Read more »

21. Landmine Marathon – Wounded (2006)
Tomorrorw’s Metal, Today!

Tis But a Flesh Wound!
Landmine Marathon are going to dominate the next decade. The best way to describe them is as a cross between Vader and Converge but even that is a very poor comparison. Yeah, it’s deathrash meets grindy metalcore but it’s so incredibly innovative and original that this band may very well be the American Children of Bodom or Mnemic. Read more »

26. Pig Destroyer – Terrifyer (2004)
More Sad Than Terrifying but Still Kicks My Ass

Wow, I never thought that staring at boobs would actually make me uncomfortable but these are just.. disturbing
Ruthless, crushing and the perfect balance between the short bursts of Prowler in the Yard and the more developed tracks of Phantom Limb. All the while J.R. Hayes establishes himself as a modern poet by exploring a tortured loveless soul and his quest for longing but inability to get over his own inability to reciprocate love, finding himself unable to feel any passion towards another human being and as time goes on, he it becomes harder and harder to love as you become numb to love and find a disgust with women in general but you can’t stop breaking hearts. It’s a feeling that I know all to well. This people, is the sound of failure. Read more »

31. Anaal Nathrakh – Eschaton (2006)
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! BLLLLLLLAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!! YYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fun Fact. This album cover is a series of fractal patterns.
Anaal Nathrakh have again created another great album that combines Dave Hunt’s interests in literature and philosophy with Mick Kenny’s desire to kick your ass. Anaal Nathrakh once again prove that every decade since the genre’s inception has had an essential duo. Joan and Lita in the 70s, Tom and Martin in the 80s, and Vinne and Dime in the 90s. Yes the comparisons are truly that accurate since Anaal Nathrakh are just that good and the best thing to happen to British metal since Carcass. Read more »

36. Today is the Day – Sadness Will Prevail (2002)
I’m not crazy, it’s the world! Pt. 1

Try to Not be Disturbed by This
Humans do not make this type of music. This is the product of aliens trying to communicate with us as their own civilization destroys itself and it’s just as maddening and frightening as it sounds. Read more »

The 100 Best Metal Albums of the Decade: #48
48. Pig Destroyer – Phantom Limb (2007)
Grindcore Evolved
Phantom Limb took not only Pig Destroyer but all of grindcore to the next level as songwriting had finally become as important as riffage and brutality. It’s hard to call any album where the song lengths regularly break the three minute mark grindcore but the occasional minute long bursts of speed as well as the overall tempo keep Phantom limb firmly withing the grind genre. 60. Anaal Nathrakh – The Codex Necro – (2001)
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember That Part From Reservoir Dogs...
It was said around the turn of the millennium that metal could not get heavier than Suffocation, Anal Cunt or Marduk. The benchmark had been reached and there was simply no surpassing it. That was until a year later when Anaal Nathrakh took metal kicking and screaming into the 21st Century… with an emphasis on the screaming part. Read more »

And now I present to you… #95, the album that symbolized that maturity of one of the most immature (yet entertaining) groups of all time.
95. Agoraphobic Nosebleed – Agorapocalypse (2009)
They Finally Wrote Real Songs?????

Oh god. The walls are melting. I can see Abe Lincoln.

The 100 Best Metal Albums of the Decade: #96
Yeah, it influenced a lot of horrible bands, but this album (or band for that matter) are fucking great. You can hate the genre that they created, but there are so many good things about this band that they deserve your attention.
96. The Red Chord – Fused Together in Revolving Doors (2002)
This Album is Responsible for Everything That You Hate

Hey guys, we now have the fingerprint of Gunface! Let's stalk him!

[spīn-laŋ-gwij]
This is a blog about metal – and all the stuff that can go wrong with it. As one of the few genres (in my opinion) that can simultaneously unite and divide people so violently, metal itself has become a battleground of inbred enemies. We are constantly fighting amongst each other over which bands are better and which ones are posers, and sometimes the gray area in the middle becomes so dense that you don’t know what’s safe to tell people you listen to and what isn’t. Blabbermouth has shown us how frustrating that can be.
However, I’m not out to change the world. This passionate dialogue of “fuck you’s” and “[insert band name here] isn’t metal”, while divisive, is one of the defining features of the music by which we swear. It is the human element in the equation that makes metal different from everything else. We now live in a world where if you make someone cry over the internet you can be charged with hate speech. Nothing quells free speech more than hurt feelings and litigation (the latter has an edge on the former in terms of influence), and that is a big problem. What’s the solution?
My dad likes to say “suck it up” – but I prefer “get a spine”. Don’t walk around slouching over like a drooling imbecile taking so much pity on yourself that you’ll punish others for your own low self-esteem. Instead, embrace the power of being human and learn to let words stay words and feelings stay feelings. That’s the point of this blog. Metal fans aren’t a bunch of whiny children begging for apologies and compensation; we’re strong-willed, intelligent people who can withstand anything. We embrace music built on the concept of having a backbone. Shouldn’t we talk like we have one?
My plan is to take risks and always stay humorous, even if some of the things I say contradict previous things I’ve said. Since I don’t take this seriously, you shouldn’t take me and my immediate opinions seriously. The point is to have fun! Don’t jump all over me because I take a jab at your favorite band, because in the next post I might back them up!
I also hope to feature a lot of exclusive interviews with bands and CD reviews, so if you’re in a band and you want to be reviewed/interviewed, let me know! I’m much more respectful with those things than what I post in “General Buffoonery,” so I won’t be taking jabs at you. Just let me know through my MySpace page.

I hope that the few, if any, people who visit this blog will enjoy what I post, but they probably won’t. This whole idea is made of fail.
